What is Heat?

Heat is the transfer of kinetic energy from one medium or object to another, or from an energy source to a medium or object. Such energy transfer can occur in three ways: radiation, conduction, and convection.

Measuring Heat Energy

There are many different ways of measuring heat energy, for example it can be measured by thermometer- the kinetic energy from a substance is passed in the thermometer, due to which the atoms or molecules from which the mercury(liquid inside thermometer) moves faster. This causes the liquid to expand.

How Heat Energy Travels

As I mentioned earlier that heat energy can travel via ways- radiation, conduction, convection.

Conduction

In conduction, the kinetic energy is travelled from particle to particle. Example- heating water. Conduction generally occurs in solid or liquid, but this can't occur in gas as the particles in gas are far from each other, so they do not affect the movement of each other.
